The government used coercive tactics on Baba Ramdev to make him withdraw his fast.Speaking to his followers at Haridwar on Sunday hours after his yoga camp in New Delhi was dismantled by the police in a late night operation, the yoga guru said, “The government forced me to write a letter that Iwould call off the fast on 6 June.’’ The government claimed they he had written the letter voluntarily, but asked them to hold it back till 6pm on Saturday.
Ramdev said the government, during talks, threatened that he should be ready to face the consequences of his action. “There was aplot to kill me,’’ he said. He also said that the police action at the Ramlila Maidan was barbaric.
”It is the darkest night of my life,’’ he added. He said Sunday and Monday wouldbe observed as Black Days across the country.
(Over 60 people, including four women and 23 security personnel, were injured in the wee hours when police fired teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd which had gathered at Ramlila Maidanto support Baba Ramdev. Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said 39 supporters, including 4 women, and 23 policemen sustained injuries in the police action which took place after Ramdev’s supporters allegedly turned violent.)
In Haridwar, Ramdev accused Congress chief Sonia Gandhi of being ruthless and the government of being remote-controlled by her. She also raised the issue of Sonia’s foreign origin. He, however, said that his fastand movement against black money will go on.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has banned him from entering Delhi for the next 15 days and justified its action saying the organisers did not restrict themselves to a yoga camp as originally permitted but resorted to a political agitation.
“On 4 June, the first day of the training camp,no yoga training as such was organised. Instead, leaders from political and religious organisations, including Baba Ramdev, choseto incite his followers through provocative speeches from the dais and exhorted people to join in large numbers,” a senior official said.
The police have filed cases of rioting and obstruction to public servants in discharge of public duties against some unknown persons.
